In 2000, le Bal attracted worldwide attention, thanks to the presence of Lauren Bush, niece of George W. Bush, who was being elected. She arrived at the Hotel de Crillon from Texas and dazzled in Christian Dior topped with a tiara. Other participants included Kuwaiti deb, Princess Lulu Mubarak Al Sabah and the Imperial Princess Victoria-Louise de Prusse.
Proceeds went to the Pierre and Marie Curie University’s campaign to develop vaccines for AIDS and cancer.
Once again, Mikimoto was le Bal’s jeweller.
